Tuesday morning
I remember stormy weather
The way the sky looks when it's cold
And you were with me
Content with walking
So unaware of the world

Walking on air

Why do we have our own cliques and pointedly ignore the rest of the people as we follow our own little worlds?

I guess first of all there's the issue of personality differences. If one's personality is inherently different from another's, it makes it hard for them to mesh together right from the start. That's why you don't often see one loud person stuck bang in the middle of a group of introverts - it doesnt work that way.

Then again, it all boils down to the ability to click: because although it's unlikely, it is possible and has happened, for two people totally different to find kinship and a bond in each other.

Then comes the issue of common grounds: what you share with the people around you, be it similar activites, interests, work that you have to complete, et cetera. Common ground is so powerful that even two people who normally loathe each other can be forced to work together and eventually discover that each others' presence is tolerable, if not even likeable, after getting to know another side of the person.

But where there's lack of common ground, it's always possible to create common ground - geog students can apply their knowledge of plate tectonics. Put in a little effort to see what you share with the other party, and sometimes you will receive a pleasant surprise.

So how come my class is so split up then? Not that it is split up enough to be detrimental to the class as a whole, but there's such a vast spectrum of personalities spanning the entire class list, with a vast number of activities and common (specifically) ground as well, that it's almost inevitable for it to be so. Certainly, it's not aided by the fact that the people who arent interested in the class are not meek and people willing to be lead by the neck: they speak up for themselves and are not afraid to show it. This is of course not a crime, nor am I against it - but it makes things that much harder because when those voices of dissent make themselves known when it comes to class affairs, their feelings must be considered as well to make everything fair, and problems arise as a result of this.

You know something is wrong when classmates have no qualms dissecting class dynamics and how screwed some things are, smack in the middle of class.

Then again, by now it's much too late, because we are just going to remain separated during the studying for prelims (who makes an effort to break the circles during studying?!), and continue doing so until we graduate - leaving a large part of our RJ life, our class life, largely unfulfilled.

That's not to say I would have walked away unrewarded from my class, or at least some of it <333

Sometimes when you want to rely on people, you might be shocked to realize that you cant rely on them at all. :[

but soft, what light through yonder window breaks?
it is the east, and you are the sun.
a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet;
the course of true love never did run smooth
