Is joining the students' council all that it's made out to be? Using information from the passages above, answer the question with regard to the situation in your country.

Ok GP style aside, all this hype and palling around regarding the 27th students' council has really set me thinking. All the councilors are putting like '27th!' on their msn nicks, going around elaborating on how bonded the councilors are and how fun everything is and stuff. But doesn't council have a very large element of segregation from the rest of the school community?

I guess, it all depends on the individual. Those councilors who in their zealousness and enthusiasm to do their best for council and form firm friends (alliteration again wow i'm imba) within would inevitably have lesser time for their old friends, no matter how close they once were. Hence these councilors (who I bet are quite a big bunch) would be segregated from their classmates/other friends as even if they try to relate to them or whatever they're forced by their commitments to hang out with other councilors after school, working and playing together.

Then again, this doesn't really bother me 'cos I have really few close friends in council. And the close ones who are inside have shown the ability to micromanage so well that they can have time for old friends even with all the new things emerging in their lives. And other than these people, the rest of the council people don't really have anything to do with me. Especially MR councilors. What a shame to know more councilors in other houses and to have more fun, radical, exciting councilors in other houses and to feel more excited around these people than councilors from your own house.

Sounds like a case of sour grapes? perhaps some councilor who i don't know is reading this and going 'mehh, you're not even in council in the first place you're just jealous' or something. well I don't know. I might have liked to join council, but judging by my results and stuff in sec 4 getting past the interview would never have been possible. and anyway i'm not really the kind who can get uber hyped up and throw myself into organization and work like nick who can really find the determination to stay up till 3 or 4am to rush his work/council stuff even after a very long day at school. It would have been torturous for me so i'm glad that I didn't even try, no matter whether I would have got in or not. To each his own I guess, and that's not my cup of tea.

When's all been said and done, I just hope the council will be able to organize more fun stuff for the entire school and more opportunities for us to relax and get away from hectic school life as an entire cohort, like take5.

Mother's Day is coming up ... just a lil' reminder everyone. Mothers are important yes they are. as can be seen from ivan's quote:
