Tuesday morning
I remember stormy weather
The way the sky looks when it's cold
And you were with me
Content with walking
So unaware of the world

Walking on air

What is the point?

Today, we shall discuss what the point of life is.

What exactly is our point in life? We see everyone in Singapore hurrying around like scurrying rats, trying to carve their own niche in their lives. This trend can of course be seen in RI. I mean what, the top (so-called) institution in Singapore, and the students inside don't try to achieve glory for themselves? Righttt.

But often this 'mentality' that RI students have give rise to the ugly sides of themselves. Now I am not trying to say that I am Mr. Perfect myself. Nor am I trying to say that one should not strive to do his best for the school, and all that. I personally sort of regret being a slacker for 3 years, and a good part of this year as well. So I am trying to stop slacking that much. But anyway back to the point. Ever noticed how when trying to achieve some position for themselves, there is alot of backstabbing done by RI guys? Ugly, and terrible behaviour. And when you can't get the position you desire, you talk as MUCH as you can about the person who DID get the position as possible.

What for? Sure wanting to have authority, power and decision-making chances is all good, but when it comes down to it all that matters is whether you have compromised what should be done against what you are willing to do to get more power. Power is seductive. Why do you think people abuse power? What, you say no leader abuses power in RI. Right, and of course I am Queen Cleopatra.

Another thing. Grade-grubbing. One of the thing that IRKS me the most. Sure you want to get a perfect, beautiful 4.0 GPA for all your subjects, and a nice overall 4.0 GPA on your scoresheet. But do you have to talk about it every time some new graded assessment comes up? You want to get it? Fine. GET IT QUIETLY. Isn't it better to actually get the 4.0 overall without saying nothing, instead of telling everyone your plans to get it, if only you scored how much more you'd get it, what made you not get it, blah, blah, blah. Sure, I don't deny that if I could, I'd want a 4.0 GPA too. But if you don't get it. It's not the freakin' end of the world. GET OVER IT. No one wants to hear you whine on and on about if only the teacher had given you 1 more mark for this assignment, or that test, you'd get the 4.0. I am serious. No one.

Okay now that settles the RI part of life. So let's say you do well in RI, graduate, get to RJC, graduate, go for NS, come out of NS, get a job. For girls, its just graduate from your JC/poly whatever, and move on for further studies or get a job.

Question of the year coming up...

Then what?

Life is not a bed of roses. You can't expect whatever plan you've formulated for your life during your early years, or whatever situations you assume will come along, will always be accurate. If this happens to you, give me your number. I will call you for a consultation.

So of course I guess the reality of things is, our lives are pretty much determined by whatever circumstances and environmental factors that spring up. We can't predict the future. We don't know for sure that tomorrow, an epidemic will not break out and kill us all! So it's all about living life one step at a time, making as many good decisions as we possibly can, to try and shift our lives in the way we want them to be. You know how people say there is no try, only do? Those are the people who are trying so hard themselves. Trying to obtain a better life. And once they attain some degree of success, come out with cliches like that to encourage others. And it works, believe me. I have nothing against people who motivate others. But you can't determine the circumstances that will pop out in your life.

Feel free to rebuke me. I'm all up for intellectual engagement. Keeps one's mind healthy. =)

11.11 pm. Nice time. And it's time to stop for the day.
